Berlin Packaging acquires UK packaging specialist BlueSky in major market expansion
Grimsby-based rigid packaging specialist BlueSky has been acquired by a global supplier as part of a further expansion into the UK market.
BlueSky, a specialist in rigid packaging for the personal care, pharma, health & beauty, and food & beverage sectors, has been acquired by international packaging group Berlin Packaging, with law firm RWK Goodman advising BlueSky on the transaction.
The acquisition will give Berlin Packaging a wider presence and enhanced capability in the UK. The group intends to embed BlueSky’s fast, simple, and consultative approach to service into its operations, ensuring continuity for existing customers and laying the foundations for future growth.
The family-owned business supplies plastic, aluminium, and glass packaging solutions as well as offering decoration, printing, and extensive sourcing expertise. Its packaging is used by well-known brands stocked by major retail chains including Tesco, Boots, Harrods, and Pets at Home.
An RWK Goodman team led by corporate partner David Gerber advised BlueSky on the transaction, with additional support from senior associate Emily Jones and solicitor Kayleigh Tang on corporate matters, and partner Martin Pratt on employment requirements.
David said: “BlueSky is a well-established family business with deep roots in the UK market, and this acquisition is a genuine step forward for them. Berlin Packaging’s global reach and resources will allow BlueSky to build on what they have already achieved. We are delighted to have advised on a deal that we are confident is the right outcome for the business, its team, and its customers.”
Other teams supporting on the deal included MP Corporate Finance, which provided corporate financial advice to BlueSky, and Oldfield Advisory, which advised on tax and accounting matters. Eversheds acted for Berlin Packaging.
Russell Wade, managing director of BlueSky, said: “Joining Berlin Packaging marks an exciting new chapter for both our team and, most importantly, our customers. By combining our highly responsive, consultative service with Berlin’s global scale, sourcing strength, and innovation capabilities, we will be able to offer our customers a broader range of packaging solutions, enhanced supply chain resilience, and even greater support as they grow”.
“We would like to thank David and the wider RWK Goodman team for their invaluable expertise and support in bringing this transaction to a successful conclusion. Their knowledge of the market and commercial awareness across several fronts helped ensure that this deal was not only strategically sound, but the right fit for everyone involved, including our customers.”
