Katharos completes seed financing round with support from RWK Goodman
A growing recycling developer is positioned to develop new waste and recycling infrastructure after successfully closing its seed financing round with legal support from RWK Goodman.
UK-based Katharos has completed its seed financing round, unlocking funds which will accelerate the development of projects planned to boost recycling capacity and elevate the UK’s move towards a circular economy.
The company plans to specialise in the development of material recovery facilities and municipal solid waste, saw its investment round led by angel investors, high-net-worth individuals, and corporate investors.
An RWK Goodman team led by corporate partner Richard Pull advised Katharos on the funding round, with additional support from solicitor Ken Wong.
Richard said: “Katharos are on a clear mission to deliver much needed recycling and waste infrastructure to the UK which will help move the country towards a more sustainable economy. Ensuring they have the financial backing to work towards that target is a vital part of their journey and the success of the round signals a strong affirmation of their business plan from investors.
“We were thrilled to be able to bring our legal expertise and commercial knowledge to support Katharos on this exciting and important project, helping to ensure the investment gives the company a strong platform to implement their plan.”
The investment comes as the UK looks to meet the statutory recycling target of 65 per cent of municipal waste by 2035, with the Environmental Services Association estimating that £10bn needs to be invested into the sector by 2030 to ensure targets are met.
Francis Mann, Katharos’ chief executive officer and co-founder, said: “Our mission at Katharos is to increase the UK recycling’s capacity and support the UK’s long-term circular economy objectives. Closing this seed round, with our new investors standing alongside our team and board, we will now accelerate the development of our project pipeline and market engagement.
“We’re thankful for the support Richard and RWK Goodman brought to this round of seed funding. Their commercial awareness, legal expertise, and collaborative approach made them excellent partners in ensuring that this round of funding not only matched our short-term funding requirements, but provided a strong foundation to build off for the future.”
