Saeed’s experience – the opportunities provided by disability cricket
Disability sport is a vital resource for those living with a disability. Not only for the opportunity to keep active, but also to build connections with people who have similar experiences; as it is for able-bodied sport, too.
However, unfortunately people living with disability often don’t have this opportunity. It is therefore up to larger organisations to deliver programmes to enable the disabled community to get involved.
Gloucester Cricket Foundation
One such organisation that has helped one of our clients is Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation. This charitable organisation brings together passionate trustees from the world of cricket to help people from various backgrounds, including the disabled community, to get out on the wicket.
One of Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation’s key objectives for their 2020-24 strategy is to provide an inclusive participation pathway, including increasing participation in disability cricket. And our client Saeed, and his family, have benefited greatly from this aim.
Saeed’s experience
Saeed, who suffered a brain injury as a child and lives with disability as a result, regularly gets involved in cricket with Gloucester Cricket Foundation. Attending fortnightly training sessions through the summer as well as matches and other events the rest of the year, Saeed uses cricket as one of many ways to keep active despite the issues with mobility he lives with.
Mahmood, Saeed’s father, told us about the benefits that sport has brought to his son’s life:
Sports and physical exercise have been vital for our son’s mobility over the last 23 years of his disability.
For this, the family’s sports activity and some fitness is vital to continue supporting him. Walks, running/jogging to support the disabled person, sports to stay fit are all a challenge with all other matters related to the disabled person.
It also acts as an incredible incentive for social meet-up, where not only the young persons but also their families become like a big joint family and are able to support each other.
Our expert injury solicitors have helped to secure access to sport and other physical rehabilitation for many clients. If you are considering a claim for compensation, contact us today to find out how we can help.
