RWK Goodman strengthens national high-net-worth planning expertise with strategic Bristol appointment

RWK Goodman has continued the strategic growth of its wider private client capabilities with the appointment of Edward Porter as a partner in the firm’s Bristol office.

Edward, who joins the firm after more than a decade at Michelmores, brings extensive experience in a wide range of high-net-worth estate and succession planning needs for business owners, families, and individuals.

Ranked as a Band 2 in the Chambers High Net Worth Guide for Private Wealth Law in Bristol and surrounds, Edward advises clients on matters including Inheritance Tax planning, maximising business and agricultural property reliefs, trust and probate administration, and charity matters including creating registered charities and governance.

A member of the Society for Trust and Estate Practitioners, he also supports on matters involving complex family circumstances including mental capacity and attorney disputes, and wider preparation of wills, trusts, and estate administration.

Edward said: “I’m excited to join RWK Goodman’s growing private client team during a period of prolonged ambition to grow the practice and deliver exceptional service for high-net-worth clients not just in the South West but across the country.

“As someone who works closely with private capital advisors and client’s business commitments, the need to link private wealth and corporate counsel is vital to ensure the best results for our clients, and RWK Goodman’s commitment to championing their clients and collaborating across the firm and range of practice areas in both private client and commercial capacities was a natural fit to my skillset.

“The opportunity to further develop my practice within a highly specialised field is incredibly exciting, and I look forward to working with the wider team to elevate the exceptional quality of support we deliver.”

Edward is the latest strategic appointment in RWK Goodman’s growing national private client team, joining alongside the appointment of partner Alex Stanier in Oxford in November.

Tom Gilman, head of RWK Goodman’s private client team, said: “Edward brings exceptional experience supporting clients on highly important matters which faces any business owner or family’s portfolio – ensuring assets are eligible for business and agricultural reliefs, and planning for the long-term safeguarding of estates through succession and tax planning – and I’m thrilled to be able to welcome him to the firm.

“His arrival is a significant boost to our existing capabilities which also reinforces our growing national presence and expertise, while also highlighting our wider strategic commitment to bringing in talented people who excel in collaboration and working across a range of practices to ensure our clients receive a high-quality multidisciplinary service.”
