Foster Wheeler – Asbestos Linked To Mesothelioma In Engineer
Who is Foster Wheeler?
The company of Foster Wheeler has been in existence for more than a century, with a global presence that includes offices around the world and a workforce of over 10,000 employees. The UK section of the company can be traced back to 1891 and is still strong today with its headquarters in Reading. Primarily a service provider focussing on engineering, construction, power generation and procurement projects, Foster Wheeler has had links in the past with asbestos products through its merger companies which produced steam generators, marine boilers, and cooling equipment. During World War II, the armed forces contracted Foster Wheeler because of its expertise with such equipment.
Foster Wheeler Engineer Mesothelioma Case Details
A former engineer was diagnosed with mesothelioma aged only 65yrs.
He began his career as a merchant marine engineer apprentice. After qualifying, he joined Foster Wheeler, where he was unknowingly exposed to asbestos. Although his role was primarily office-based, he was occasionally required to visit outlying sites, including oil refineries. He was unaware of the potential asbestos exposure during these visits. However, our lead mesothelioma solicitor gathered compelling evidence from similar occupations and workers at the same sites, successfully demonstrating the presence of asbestos.
Our client was a devoted family man who helped care for his teenage grandchildren and disabled adult son. The legal claim was essential to securing their future care and financial stability.
Court proceedings were initiated and a six-figure interim payment was made to the family shortly after his passing, while the defendant attempted to coordinate insurers.
Although the defendants had all the necessary information, they failed to make an offer despite indicating readiness to do so. As a result, a trial date was set. Subsequently, a round table meeting held one week before the trial led to an out-of-court settlement for a substantial six-figure sum. The claim was particularly valuable due to the client’s significant pension and the ongoing care needs of his family.
Our lead solicitor has handled many similar mesothelioma cases over the past 20 years and understands the importance of securing the best possible outcome to ensure financial security for surviving family members.
