Action Mesothelioma Day 2025
Our specialist Mesothelioma and Asbestos team marked Action Mesothelioma Day on 4 July this year by attending a host of events up and down the country.
Action Mesothelioma Day falls annually on the first Friday of July and is a day of reflection and remembrance for those who have been diagnosed with, or lost their lives to, mesothelioma. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness of the disease and to act as a reminder that people continue to be exposed to asbestos to this day despite it being banned in the UK, and mesothelioma being entirely preventable.
Partner, Michael Wolstencroft, attended the Yorkshire and Humberside Asbestos Support Group (‘SARAG’) event in Sheffield. Talks focussed on learning about further developments in mesothelioma treatments.
Partner, Rachel James, and Senior Associate, Rachel Carmen, attended the HASAG ceremony with a butterfly release in Portsmouth, which included a talk by HASAG providing an update on the incidence of asbestos exposure in the UK.
Associate, David Hughes, attended the Greater Manchester Asbestos Victims Support Group (‘GMAVSG’) at the Friend’s Meeting House in the city, where Dr Bethany Taylor from the Mesothelioma UK Research Centre talked about their current projects, as well as asbestos in healthcare premises and schools. The day was topped off by a dove release in Manchester’s St. Peter’s Square.
Solicitors, Laura Aregbe, George Bell, and Andra Popoiag, attended the East Midlands Asbestos Support Team’s ‘Blue Light Walk’ around the Secret Garden at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester where Professor Dean Fennel shared valuable insights in to treatments and ongoing research.
Solicitor, Olivia Hanna, attended SWASAG’s event at Home Park Stadium in Plymouth where there was a delicious lunch, a quiz, a raffle and a butterfly release.
Partner, Helen Childs, went to Liverpool and took part in a quiz hosted by Merseyside Asbestos Victim Support Group (‘MAVSG’).
Partner, Jennifer Seavor, was at Bristol Harbourside for a dove release with Bristol and Beyond Asbestos Family Support (‘BBAFS’). Mesothelioma UK nurse, Anna Morley, spoke about the continuing impact asbestos is having on people and their families in the area and Kerry McCarthy, MP for Bristol East, also attended.
Partner, Annabelle Neilson, attended the ‘Picnic in the Park’ event hosted by Mesothelioma Support Yorkshire (‘MESSY’).
