Quadruple amputee Alex Lewis to visit RWK Goodman in Bath as part of 1000-mile hand cycling and rowing challenge
RWK Goodman is honoured to host Alex Lewis, a quadruple amputee, as part of his extraordinary "Pig 2 Pig" challenge. Alex will visit the law firm's Midland Bridge House offices in Bath on Monday 24 June between 11am-12pm, having set off on that day’s leg of the journey from Marlborough that morning on his adapted hand bicycle.
Alex Lewis, 43, from Stockbridge in Hampshire, contracted Strep A in November 2013, which led to Strep A Toxic Shock Syndrome and septicaemia. Over the course of the next seven months Alex underwent lifesaving surgery resulting in the loss of his left arm above the elbow and both legs above the knee and sadly six months later he lost his right arm below the elbow. He also needed facial reconstruction as the infection ravaged his face and mouth as well as his limbs.
Despite these life-altering changes, Alex has dedicated his life to inspiring others and advancing assistive technology through the Alex Lewis Trust and the FLOAT Foundation.
The Pig 2 Pig challenge, sponsored by RWK Goodman, commenced on June 2nd at The Pig in Harlyn Bay. Alex cycled to Falmouth Harbour, where he embarked on a uniquely adapted flying 15 boat and rowed 350 miles to Dover. He then resumed his hand cycling journey, covering 649 miles back to Harlyn Bay. Along the way, Alex is stopping at various businesses, schools, universities, and charities to raise awareness and funds for the FLOAT Foundation, which aims to make assistive technology accessible and affordable for all.
During his visit to Bath, Alex will be accompanied by his support crew and the specially adapted rowing boat, which has garnered significant interest due to its innovative design for a quadruple amputee.
Louise Hart, Head of Personal Injury at RWK Goodman, comments: “We are incredibly proud to support Alex in his remarkable journey. His determination and resilience are truly inspirational. By partnering with him on the Pig 2 Pig challenge, we hope to raise awareness about the importance of assistive technology and the incredible impact it can have on people’s lives.”
