Six-figure damages secured for former VESSA Limited employee after mesothelioma diagnosis

Mr B instructed RWK Goodman shortly after his diagnosis with malignant mesothelioma.

Mr B had been employed by VESSA Limited, a company in Alton who made wheelchairs, prosthetics and made filters for aircrafts or ships. Mr B did not work on the line that manufactured filters, but there were no doors separating the two lines.

Asbestos paste was used in the manufacture of the filters by VESSA Limited and Mr B recalled asbestos pasted being mixed up from raw bags of asbestos powder which, created huge clouds of dust that spread throughout the factory. Mr B was able to provide contact details for a colleague who worked with him at VESSA Limited and was able to provide a supporting witness statement.

Proceedings were issued to secure a judgment and interim payment for Mr B. Following issue of proceedings, liability was conceded very quickly. Mr B was able to secure an interim payment and his case concluded within six months for a six-figure settlement to compensate Mr B for his pain and suffering and lost years of income.

The settlement included a provision for Mr B’s future private medical treatment costs as he was undergoing immunotherapy treatment and at the point of settlement, and it was not known what future treatment he may benefit from.
