HASAG’s counselling service

Posted in Mesothelioma

HASAG is a charity that provides much-needed support to patients affected by asbestos-related diseases, and their families. It was founded in 2006 by Diane Salisbury and Lynne Squibb in memory of their father, Dave Salisbury, who suffered from the asbestos-related disease, mesothelioma.

During their father’s illness, Diane and Lynne were surprised by the number of people in the UK who suffer from asbestos-related illnesses and the lack of support available to them and their loved ones. They decided that urgent change was needed so that those people could access information, guidance and support quickly and easily.

One of the many ways in which HASAG provides support to patients and their families is through their complimentary professional counselling service.

HASAG acknowledges that, following a diagnosis, the ability to manage emotions plays an important role in the wellbeing of a person with mesothelioma. People can experience shock, anger and worry and it is not always easy to talk to family and friends about their feelings. However, speaking to a counsellor can help identify emotional and physical coping mechanisms. HASAG have helped many families through this invaluable service.

Lynne commented: "Since the launch of our counselling service in 2020, we have received fantastic feedback. This is both a unique and invaluable service, which provides essential support to patients and their loved ones. We are aware from conversations we have had with patients and their relatives that this has provided an opportunity for them to express and explore how they are feeling without burdening them. We are delighted to be able to continue to offer this free support during a difficult time."

HASAG are happy to put people with mesothelioma and their families in touch with a specialist counsellor. Anyone interested in gaining access to the service should contact HASAG by telephone on 02380 010 015 /02380 010 016 or by email at [email protected].
