Book review – Understanding Mesothelioma: The experiences and care needs of people with mesothelioma and their families
A book called ‘Understanding Mesothelioma: The Experiences and Care Needs of People with Mesothelioma and their Families’ was published in September 2025.
The text is expected to be an important resource for those diagnosed with mesothelioma, and their families. The content will help those diagnosed understand what mesothelioma is, why and how it develops and highlights a range of lived experiences through the journey from diagnosis, symptom control, treatment, end of life care and bereavement.
The book provides information and insights from a diverse range of experts in health, social care and law. Its content is informative and empowering, with the focus on living well with mesothelioma.
Jennifer Seavor, Partner in our Asbestos and Mesothelioma Team was asked by national charity Mesothelioma UK and the Mesothelioma Research Centre to write the chapter on legal compensation claims.
Jennifer said “It was a real honour to have been the lawyer asked to contribute the chapter on pursuing a compensation claim to this important book. It was a challenge to keep within the word limit, as there were so much more to say. However, I hope what I have written will be of help to those navigating their mesothelioma journey and empower them to reach out and seek legal advice. Pursuing a claim is about so much more than money. It can give mesothelioma patients some control back at a time when so much is uncertain. Help them uncover how they came in to contact with asbestos, seek justice for the negligent exposure which led them to develop an entirely avoidable cancer, access private treatments not yet available through the NHS to prolong life and help manage symptoms, and of course ease financial worries for them and their families.”
The book published by Routledge on 23 September 2025 (ISBN 9781032631295) is available from a range of retailers, including from Amazon priced £38.99 (paperback).
