Claim settled for Labourer exposed to asbestos whilst working for William Press & Sons.
Mr B was employed as a labourer at William Press & Son Ltd between 1970 and 1972 when he was exposed to asbestos. Sadly, decades later, Mr B became poorly and was given the tragic news that he had developed mesothelioma, due to the asbestos exposure.
Mr B had been involved in the removal of asbestos lagging from pipes when he worked at William Press & Son Ltd, who had a maintenance contract with Atomic Energy Research Establishment in Harwell. Mr B undertook pipework maintenance at Atomic Energy Research Establishment. The building he worked in had steampipes that ran all over, and these came out of a central boiler house. All these steampipes were lagged with asbestos. Mr B had to remove the lagging to undertake maintenance work.
Mr B’s main priority was to settle the claim during his lifetime and for his wife to have security in the future. Mr B’s wife suffers with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis and relied on him for day-to-day care and services.
We were able to persuade the Defendant to attend a joint settlement meeting and to settle the claim on the basis that Mrs B’s dependency on Mr B’s care were included within the settlement. The settlement was large enough to ensure that Mrs B can pay for future services and care for herself, but to also allow for care to be provided to Mr B during the remainder of his lifetime.
