£200,000 compensation for family of plant worker exposed to asbestos
We were contacted by the daughter of Mr H, who had had sadly passed away in August 2019 from malignant mesothelioma, after suffering for more than a year from debilitating symptoms.
Mr H had worked for Morris Motors at the Cowley Plant in Oxford and was exposed to significant asbestos dust for over 20 years, from the 1960s to the 1980s. He worked underneath maintenance workers who were situated above the production line on gantries, cutting into asbestos lagging which would rain down onto the workers below. He was provided no protection.
A claim was submitted to the Defendant and lack of response meant that court proceedings were necessary.
We issued Court proceedings and Judgement in favour of the Claimant was obtained at a court hearing and an interim payment of £50,000 was paid by the Defendant. Shortly after this, the Defendants’ representatives offered to settle the claim and agreed to pay further sums in compensation, totalling over £200,000.
It was a pleasure to act for Mr H’s family and while compensation cannot bring a loved one back, the family are satisfied that justice had been served:
“Thank you and your team for your hard work from start to finish with our claim/settlement, and your efficiency and utmost professionalism throughout, whilst maintaining understanding and compassion when talking about dad. I would have no hesitation recommending you to any family, friends or colleagues”
