About Tracey

Tracey Merrett was admitted in 1985 and has always specialised in planning and environmental law.

Tracey has worked for both local authorities and private practice including magic circle firms in London. She is familiar with all aspects of the development and planning process and the political context within which it sits.

Tracey has advised on every aspect of planning law including;

  • Development consent orders
  • Housing leisure and retail developments
  • Listed building and other enforcement issues
  • Administrative law
  • Judicial review
  • Drafting and negotiating s106 agreements and conducting public inquires and hearings

In relation to environmental law she has advised on:

  • The licencing of a waste transfer stations
  • Development of biomass plants and anaerobic digesters
  • Wind turbine projects
  • Solar farms
  • The setting up of a waste disposal company

Tracey also advises on highway law issues including the diversion or extinguishment of bridleways or footpaths either to enable development or to secure privacy.

Tracey has also written parts of Butterworth’s Planning Law Encyclopaedia and a university textbook for Town Planning students. She has spoken at many conferences and given training lectures on planning and environmental law for the Law Society, RICSA, RIBA, various training companies and many firms of solicitors.
