A different Colour the World Orange Day for CRPS sufferers, but support is still there for those who need it

Colour the World Orange Day is an important day for CRPS sufferers around the world, whether they have received a diagnosis yet or not. Some may be experiencing chronic pain that they don’t understand, and becoming aware of the existence of CRPS as a condition could well be an important step on their journey to managing this terrible condition. For others who are aware of the condition, it helps to educate the general public as to the hidden issues they face.

Managing during the COVID-19 pandemic

This pandemic will surely have been a difficult time for CRPS sufferers, as it has been for many with chronic conditions.

CRPS is still not fully understood, but one aspect that is well known is its reaction to stress. During this difficult and anxiety-inducing time I’m sure many will have found their CRPS symptoms more difficult to manage.

What’s more, CRPS patients who may have been undergoing important rehabilitation may have found this stopped during lockdown. As someone who works closely with CRPS sufferers I know that rehab can really help with the management of the awful symptoms of the condition, so limiting their access to it could have set some back months – a prospect that sounds minor to those who don’t understand the condition, but will have had huge repercussions.

Fortunately, many dedicated treatment providers – such as the Pain Physio Richmond Stace, who has commented on our blogs previously – have managed to adapt their practice to offer video consultations for their patients. This will have offered a real lifeline for people living with CRPS.

How one charity has continued to offer support

Charities such as CRPS-UK have also soldiered on through the pandemic. This patient-led charity has offered virtual coffee mornings for members to meet up, see a friendly face, and find some much-needed support. Furthermore, they have continued to raise money for their important work through the creative use of video conferencing for quiz nights and bingo evenings!

The charity has also taken its annual conference online this year, and later in the month will be inviting people to hear from experts in CRPS and related issues. You can find out more about the event by contacting [email protected].

We are proud to support CRPS-UK, and look forward to hearing about the other creative ways they have continued to offer support for their members in the months to come!
