WITNESS APPEAL: Did you work for the Bank of England in Liverpool or did you work at the Bank of England’s premises on Castle Street, Liverpool, when it underwent modernisation between 1962 and 1967?

Elizabeth (Lizzie) Petersen (nee Powney) died as a consequence of mesothelioma, an asbestos-related disease, in March 2016.

Lizzie worked for the Bank of England in Liverpool between 1957 and 1964. We believe she may have been exposed to asbestos during that time when the premises underwent modernisation which would have involved the use of and disturbance of asbestos-containing products.

A number of contractors undertook work at the property including Young Austen & Young Ltd (who undertook work to the heating system), and Tysons Ltd (the main contractor onsite).

We would be very interested in speaking to anyone who may have worked for the bank or on the building.
