Withy King to host The Silverlining film premieres
Withy King is to host the premieres of three short films to showcase the personal journeys and achievements of two remarkable people, Mary-Jane Allen (known as MJ) and Martin Black, as well as a recent fashion show for the Silverlining charity.
Tickets are now available for the charity fund-raiser which is being held at the Ultimate Picture Palace, Cowley Road, Oxford, on Tuesday 2 June, starting with a champagne reception at 6pm. All money raised will go towards the Silverlining’s minibus appeal.
Two of the films tell the inspirational stories of MJ, aged 29 of Kennington, Oxford, who developed cerebral palsy as a result of being starved of oxygen at birth, and Martin, aged 37 of Long Hanborough who suffered a severe brain injury as a teenager. They are both Silverliners – the term given to members of the Silverlining, a charity which helps people who have life-changing brain injuries to regain their confidence by reaching out and supporting others in similar situations to themselves through social events and other activities.
A third film will cover the Silverlining Fashion Show which saw MJ take her first steps on the runway and Martin model the latest designer clothing. They were accompanied by disabled and able bodied models at the fashion show held at Rhodes House, Oxford, which was attended by over 100 people.
MJ and Martin have close and long-standing relationships with Withy King, which commissioned the films. Withy King handled MJ’s and Martin’s clinical negligence cases and acts as professional trustee to them both.
Withy King partner Tracy Norris-Evans, who is professional trustee for both MJ and Martin, explained: “We commissioned the films to celebrate the incredible achievements of two of our clients, MJ and Martin, who are an inspiration to us all. We hope their courage and determination will inspire others who may have suffered similar setbacks in their lives.
“One of our roles is to help MJ and Martin to manage their compensation awards responsibly and to ensure their complex needs are met as well as their long-term financial security.
“It was a privilege to have been so actively involved in the recent refurbishment of MJ’s bungalow which has transformed so many aspects of her life, giving her the freedom, independence and stability which so many of us take for granted.
“It has also been very rewarding working with Martin, who was the reason the Silverlining set up a group in Oxford three years ago under the leadership of Maggie Sargent. Martin’s love of music was also the inspiration for the recording of his song ‘With Me’ which has been sung by all the Oxford Silverliners and other supporters of the charity. A recording will be played at the film premieres.
“This event promises to be a moving tribute to MJ and Martin as well as the Silverlining charity and we hope to see as many people there as possible.”
