Successful mesothelioma claim where another firm failed

Mr L worked as a lagger’s mate for a Reading insulation firm in the 1960s. He was diagnosed with mesothelioma shortly after retiring in his mid-sixties.

Mr L originally instructed a London firm, who gave up on the claim because they couldn’t locate insurers. The insurers were refusing to cover because there was a slight discrepancy between the registered name of the company and the name on the insurance certificate.

The London firm hadn’t even attempted to argue the point,. even though the address and type of work and all other information was consistent. Their statement didn’t mention that there may have been other possible exposure.

When Mr L instructed Helen Childs, she used her knowledge of a vast variety of industries and helped Mr L remember by asking the right questions. It turned out that apart from the Reading insulation firm, there were two other possible defendants – pipefitting for Capper Pipes and work with Wimpeys.

Helen resolved the insurance issue and involved the other defendants, and the claim was settled for £150K plus within 6 months of instruction.
