RWK Goodman aims to raise £10,000 for charity through 2024 mile ‘Sportsathon’
We have planned a 2024 mile cycling, rowing, walking and running challenge, with the aim of raising £10,000 for charities Supporting Sick Newborns and Parents (SSNAP), We Hear You, Simon Community and Rainbow Trust.
The ‘Sportsathon’ event, set to take place on the 25th and 26th of September, is an exhilarating two-day challenge that will see participants cycling, rowing, walking and running for a total of 24 hours, aiming to cover a combined distance of 2024 miles.
PureGym is generously providing rowing machines and spin bikes for the event in Bath and Swindon, while Oxford Brookes University will supplying equipment to Oxford, and Fitness First providing equipment to London.
RWK Goodman has set an ambitious fundraising target of £10,000 for this event. To achieve this, the firm is actively seeking sponsors. Sophie Webb, head of the charities committee, and Mollie Mountford are leading the initiative.
Sophie Webb comments: “We are incredibly excited about the Sportsathon. This event builds on the success of last year’s ‘Step Ahead Challenge,’ and we hope to create an even greater impact this year. The combination of cycling and rowing allows for broad participation and it’s a fantastic way for our team to challenge themselves while raising vital funds for our chosen charities.”
The Sportsathon follows the success of last year’s ‘Step Ahead Challenge,’ a 130-mile sponsored walk from Bath to London, which took place over 10 working days. The event raised almost £9000 for Centrepoint, Sobell House, Swindon Food Collective, and Trauma Breakthrough.
Supporting our local communities and flagship charities has always been a crucial part of our culture and values here at RWK Goodman. As part of our ongoing ESG commitments, we strive to create a positive impact through meaningful contributions. This Sportathon is an opportunity for us to engage actively with our communities and support the vital work of our flagship charities.
Our charities:
Supporting Sick Newborns and Parents (SSNAP) champion the right of all sick and premature babies treated in Oxford by supporting families, purchasing life-saving equipment and enabling life-changing research and training. SSNAP now supports the Newborn Care Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
We Hear You provide free emotional support for patients, families, friends and carers who have been affected or bereaved by cancer or any other life-threatening condition, across Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset.
The Simon Community supports homeless people across London, reducing social isolation and providing a place where they can gain a sense of belonging and foster the skills they need to move towards independent living.
Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity supports families who have a child aged 0-18 years with a life-threatening or terminal illness. Rainbow Trust pairs each family with an expert Family Support Worker who enables them to make the most of their time together, giving them practical and emotional support, whenever they need it, for as long as is needed.
