Royds event sheds light on employment tribunals

City solicitors Royds staged a mock tribunal yesterday evening.

The law firm’s Employment Department hosted the event at the Old Court Room in Lincoln's Inn at the heart of London's legal district.

The scenario devised for delegates involved a claim brought by Denise Royle against her former employer, Call Centres R Us Limited.

While the Claimant’s name raised a smile with sitcom fans, there was nonetheless a serious point to the proceedings.

Using the fictional case of an unfair dismissal and disability discrimination claim, the Royds team was able to shed light on how a Tribunal hearing runs. The case allowed employers and HR professionals present to see the pitfalls that arise when misconduct is badly handled and the potential for serious problems to arise when an employer fails to deal with these issues properly.

The whole event was scripted by the team so as to give the tribunal as authentic feel as possible and business clients who attended could see for themselves at first hand what was involved .

Delegates enjoyed the light-hearted approach but appreciated the underlying serious message that was conveyed.
