Mesothelioma claim for former shipbuilder settles for just under £200,000 within nine months

Mr E was aged 72 when he was diagnosed with mesothelioma in the Spring of 2015. He had worked as a shipbuilder for Harland and Woolf in Belfast in the 1950s and 1960s, and then went into the Merchant Navy.

He instructed Helen Childs in our Industrial Diseases team in April 2015 and we contacted his previous employers immediately. The insurers for Harland and Woolf admitted responsibility for his illness and paid £50,000 on account within three months. After gathering together medical evidence and financial information we issued court proceedings to ensure a speedy settlement of his claim. The case settled for just under £200k within just nine months, giving Mr E the peace of mind of knowing his wife and family will be well provided for.
