Mesothelioma claim for carpenter settles for well in excess of £100,000 during his lifetime

Mr H used to work for various different construction companies during the 1960s and 1970s. He was regularly exposed to airborne asbestos dust. He was previously very fit and well and a keen gardener and handyman. Although he had retired, Mr H kept himself very busy until he began to develop back pain and increasing tiredness. He underwent medical tests and was diagnosed with mesothelioma, which is an aggressive asbestos related cancer.

The insurers for Mr H’s previous employers admitted liability within 2 months of our being instructed and made an interim payment of £50,000. They were however slow to make an offer in settlement and Court proceedings were issued in the Spring of 2014. The claim was settled just one week before a Court review hearing for well in excess of £100,000. Unfortunately, by now Mr H was quite unwell and had been admitted to a hospice.

After the settlement, the client’s daughter said in a letter to Helen, “Thank you for confirming the settlement of Dad’s claim. You have been able to put his mind totally at rest”.
