Increase in Fortysomethings Cohabiting

The figures, published by the Office for National Statistics, have suggested that whilst those in their forties are least likely to get married; they are more likely to cohabit with their partners – with the number of forty-somethings cohabiting increasing by roughly 70 percent over the last decade.

The figures suggest that the rise in couples in their forties who are cohabiting coincides with a rise in divorce rates for the same age group; whilst married couples in the UK are now considered to be within the minority, with only 48 percent of the population being married.
