How we secured our Times Best Law Firms 2021 ranking
As you may have seen last week, our firm has been selected by The Times and Statista as one of the top 200 legal practices in England & Wales. What you may not know, and this will be especially true if you do not have a subscription to The Times, is how we did it.
We’re obviously proud to have been selected for this prestigious ranking, however we think that giving more detail about the cases that led us to be chosen helps you to understand more about our ahead of the curve legal practice. Here we go into more detail about the cases cited by The Times in their ranking.
Our Personal Injury expertise
Particular attention was given to our Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence teams, both of which have recently been top-ranked across England in the Chambers & Partners legal directories.
We are proud of our Team Around the Client approach to Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence work, and the efforts we go to secure compensation for injured clients is well demonstrated by the example chosen by the Times, where a client was awarded £270,000 in damages for a brain injury he suffered after being hit by a car.
Helping Millennium & Copthorne Hotels secure one of the largest costs awards in Employment Tribunal history
Our Employment team has been exceptionally busy during the challenging times of the coronavirus pandemic, with businesses requiring legal guidance through the various lockdowns and Government measures. However, they have still found time to help Millennium & Copthorne Hotels to secure a substantial, and potentially record-breaking, costs award after a former senior employee brought a vexatious claim to the Employment Tribunal.
Video-witnessed Wills made legal
Following pioneering work from Partner Amanda Noyce to secure a will for a client isolating due to lockdown, which was met with consternation by much of the legal community, the Government recognised in law the validity of Wills witnessed via video link.
This legal change was of vital importance to individuals and families across England & Wales, and it demonstrates once again how our firm strives to be ahead of the curve.

Oxford Genetics secures £3m syndicated investment
Oxford Genetics (OXGENE™) worked closely with our Corporate team, led by Ian Butler in this case, to secure a further £3m syndicated investment during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This deal was a great example of how our team backs clients who show entrepreneurial management, and who have the drive and ambition to innovate. We were proud to support them also as Oxford Genetics is a company that is also at the leading edge of the fight against COVID-19.
