Keeley Lengthorn shortlisted for Law Society’s Legal Heroes Award
The head of RWK Goodman’s Public Law team in London has been nominated for an award from the national Law Society for their community work and campaign to bring in bereavement leave for parents losing a baby under 24 weeks gestation.
Partner Keeley Lengthorn has been nominated for a 2026 Law Society Legal Heroes award for her tireless work on her George’s Law campaign, which looks to advocate for the implementation of a policy which would allow expectant mothers who suffer a miscarriage before 24 weeks granted a right to bereavement leave.
The Legal Heroes awards look to celebrate solicitors who have made significant differences to the lives of others, their local communities and the wider Law Society over the last two years, with Keeley one of 21 nominees from across England and Wales.
Since the passing of her son who was born at 23 weeks gestation, Keeley has spent the last four years working to change legislation around bereavement leave, with her campaigning for change seeing success on what would have been George’s 3rd birthday on 3 March 2025, when the Labour Government made an amendment to the Employment Rights Bill to allow two weeks leave for those who suffer a pregnancy loss before 24 weeks gestation.
Her campaign has continued to go from strength to strength in 2026, with Northern Ireland becoming the first country in the UK to implement wider bereavement leave in April.
Keeley said: “It’s an incredible honour to be shortlisted by the Law Society for this award and highlight the outstanding progress which has been achieved over the last four years. What has been achieved to date for George is something I’m immensely proud of and to see that spotlighted by our national professional body is touching.
“It’s been a journey which has been backed by so many people both in and out of RWK Goodman as well, and being able to bring so many people on this journey and push towards making policies like this common and highlight the importance this can have on parents and their wellbeing is vital to ensuring George’s impact continues to shine.”
RWK Goodman offers two weeks paid leave for employees who experience a loss in the first 24 weeks of a pregnancy, recognising that this time off offers security and support to employees by acknowledging their loss as well as providing time for parents to grieve without the worry of returning to work.
The nomination is the latest in a history of recognition by the industry for Keeley’s efforts advocating for George’s Law, having also won the Family Law Champion award at the 2025 LexisNexis Family Law Awards and being shortlisted for Outstanding ESG Contribution at the 2025 Chambers and Partners UK Winter Awards.
The winners will be announced on September 24.
