About Joy

Joy is a Partner in our Compensation Protection team based in our Bath office.

Joy regularly prepares financial applications to the Cout of Protection, including deputyships, gifts and matters relating to property. Conducting hearings via telephone conference and in person. Joy’s particular speciality includes preparation of statutory will applications, including contested applications. Joy also manages the administration of professional personal injury trusts.

Joy has specialised in Property and Affairs Court of Protection Matters since qualification in September 2016. Prior to qualification, Joy gained significant experience in both personal injury and clinical negligence claims. Together with her Private Client background, the eight years’ pre-qualification experience has significantly assisted Joy in her chosen specialist area, Court of Protection.

Joy fully recognises the gravity in the work that Deputies undertake and the position of real responsibility that she and her colleagues have in their client’s life.  Joy is passionate to strive to ensure that all decisions are in her client’s best interests and that their life is enhanced as a result of her involvement.

Prior to qualification, Joy gained seven years experience in both personal injury and clinical negligence claims.
Joy joined Hugh James upon quaification in September 2016 and specialised in Contested Wills, Trusts and Estates. Joy’s particular area of experience within this period included statutory will applications and disputed deputyship and attorney applications.

In January 2018 Joy joined the Court of Protection department where she dealt with the management of professional property and financial affairs deputyships and she has considerable experience with high value property and affairs cases. Such cases involve a full range of responsibilities to include employing care teams, purchasing and adapting property, as well as investing multi-million pound damages awards.

  • Joy is a volunteer in Horatio's Garden Wales and joint chair for their Fundraising Committee.
  • Joy is a Director of Moss Rose Cottage.
  • Joy also plays an active role in the chartable work undertaken for Headway Cardiff and South East Wales, Rookwood Spur and Ronald McDonald House.
  • Joy is due to run the London Marathon to raise vital funds for Cerebral Palsy Cymru. Joy has supported the charity for the past ten years, having ran her first London Marathon for Cerebral Palsy Cymru in 2015.

Joy is an active committee member for the Court of Protection Practitioners Association Cymru. Joy is also an associate member of The Association of Lifetime Lawyers, a senior member for the Professional Deputies Forum and an associate member of the Association of Contested Trusts and Probate Specialists.
