Withy King solicitor makes the Hot 100

A family solicitor from Withy King has made it into The Lawyer’s Hot 100 list for 2015 – and is the only associate in the UK to have done so.

Rebecca Stevens, who works in the family law team at Withy King and specialises in cases involving children, has been selected by The Lawyer for its highly coveted, Hot 100 list of exceptional solicitors, barristers and legal counsel. As an associate, Rebecca was the most junior solicitor among partners and other senior lawyers, to have been singled out.

Rebecca made national headlines after she was singled out for praise by the Head of Family Justice, Sir James Munby, for providing over 100 hours of free legal support to a father with learning disabilities who couldn’t afford to pay for legal representation in his battle to try and prevent the State from having his young son adopted.

Speaking after the launch of the Hot 100, Rebecca said: “This recognition came as a result of a long year working to help a vulnerable member of our society who was denied access to justice because he could not afford legal representation. There is still no solution to this problem and I intend to continue campaigning for a fairer legal system which is accessible to everyone.

“I feel incredibly proud to have qualified as a solicitor after having spent almost a decade working my way through night school to get there. Being a solicitor is an achievement I am proud of, having been brought up in a working class family who taught me that hard work, dedication and ‘learning whilst earning’ could lead to any ambition being realised.

“To be recognised by my industry four years after qualifying in 2010, is an honour. I am deeply grateful to all those who have helped me along the way but especially to Withy King for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime when offering me a training contract.”

Rebecca is part of a group chosen by the NSPCC to discuss and advise on the Government’s proposed changes to family law.
