Withy King plays active role in award-winning Abbey Sands development
The property team at law firm Withy King has played an active role in the development of an award-winning, mixed-use development by Havard Estates in a prime seafront location in Torquay, Devon.
Withy King is now involved in the pre-letting of the commercial units on the ground floor of the prestigious, £17m Abbey Sands development. Le Bistrot Pierre and Loungers’ The Visto Lounge have already been secured and are open for business.
Withy King’s residential property team is also dealing with the sale of Abbey Sands’ 27 luxury, two to four bedroom apartments, including two penthouses. They all boast 2.5m floor to ceiling windows with uninterrupted views of Torre Abbey Sands and across the bay.
Partner Paul Daniels, head of Withy King’s commercial property team, who has worked on the project from the start, said: “We advised Havard Estates on the purchase of the main site from the previous developer’s bank-appointed receiver as well as a key piece of adjoining land owned by Torbay Council, and then helped to secure the necessary planning consents.
“We worked closely with Havard Estates before, during and after construction and continue to be actively involved with the project in the pre-letting of the commercial units and the sale of the residential apartments.

The successful pre-lettings together with the level of residential sales activity demonstrate the demand for quality properties in the right location, particularly now that overall market confidence is improving.”
The Abbey Sands development, which has been delivered by specialist property development company Havard Estates and is due to be completed in early 2015, has won the ‘Best Mixed-Use Development UK’ category of the UK Property Awards 2014-15, which celebrate the highest level of achievement in the property and real estate sector.
Abbey Sands is making an important contribution to the regeneration of Torquay and the wider area, providing new and highly sought after residential and commercial opportunities as well as helping to attract further inward investment and creating new employment opportunities.
