Law firm RWK Goodman urges ASA to ‘flushlush’

Cosmetics retailer Lush has launched a bizarre marketing campaign that amongst other accuses the police of ‘spying’ and being ‘paid to lie’.

The campaign has left shoppers bemused and could have uncomfortable consequences for the popular retailer.

Stephen Welfare, a partner at RWK Goodman acting for many high street retailers said:“Lush is walking a fine line by taking on the thin blue line.  Whilst it is not possible to defame the police, the ASA’s advertising standards code specifically forbids the use of shock tactics and causing offense in advertising campaigns.  And that will extend to shopfront displays.

“Many of Lush’s customers will be upset by this campaign and this PR stunt is likely to explode faster than their own bath bombs.  Already the #flushlush hashtag is gathering pace and there seems to be little support the retailer.”

Stephen Welfare is available for interview.
