The head of RWK Goodman’s Public Law Children team in London has been appointed to the council overseeing the nation’s professional body for solicitors.

Partner Keeley Lengthorn has been elected to the Law Society’s Council – a group of 97 members across the country and practice areas who work to shape the strategic direction of the profession. She will fill the Childcare seat on the council, replacing McCormacks Law solicitor Denise Lester, who served for 12 years.

She will serve for an initial term of four years, representing solicitors in the practice area, delivering high-level thought leadership on matters affecting the profession, and assist with the definition of priority policies and strategy for the wider society.

Keeley said: “It is truly an honour to be elected to the Law Society’s Council and it is a privilege to be able to represent those working in our profession who focus their work on protecting the lives of children and their families.

“Being able to represent the profession at this level and help advocate in such a critical area of law is a great source of pride and I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to help shape the future of our industry in a manner which is forward-thinking and compassionate to those we serve.”

Keeley is a leading lawyer practising predominately in Public Law children proceedings, acting for parents, guardians, children, extended family members, and interveners. She also advises on a number of Private Law matters relating to the Children Act, and matters involving domestic abuse, surrogacy, and forced medical orders.

Also a parliamentary liaison officer for the Kent Law Society and a co-opted committee member of the Association of Lawyers for Children, Keeley has been a consistent advocate for development within the profession; most notably as part of her wider George’s Law campaign which saw success earlier in the year.

She will be appointed to the position at the Law Society Council’s annual general meeting on October 8.
