Innovation – the recipe for success
The speakers at the event included
- Julie Deane, Founder and Director of The Cambridge Satchel Company.
- René Falch Olesen, Chief Commercial Officer at DSV with more than 20 years of experience in the transportation and logistics industry.
- Fergus Gloster, Managing Director for Marketo Europe with more than 25 years of experience in the Information Technology industry.
- Tom Jenen, Head of Marketplace Development for Google's Partner Business Solutions team, covering the UK, Ireland, Benelux and Nordics regions. Tom has over 20 years experience helping lead start-ups and entrepreneurial businesses.
The speakers shared their take on how to enhance success in business. The speakers saw innovation as more than just new business. It was also new ideas and solutions to existing business.
Julie Deane’s presentation was especially impressive. She started her business on a budget of £600 from the kitchen table. She has now grown it to a company with a turnover in the millions using innovative online marketing such as social media and blogging. Her satchels are now sold all over the world.
Her story should serve as an inspiration to the many start ups in TechCity. It shows that you do not need thousands of pounds to start a new business. You can come along way with a good idea, determination and innovation.
