Corporate team supports Oxford Sciences Innovation (OSI) investment in Oxford University spin out and the management team of DNA testing business

Over the last five months, the Oxford based Corporate team at RWK Goodman has successfully completed a number of transactions, particularly in the life sciences and technology sectors.

The team, led by Iain Butler, successfully advised Edtopia Limited, a spin out from the University of Oxford, on its investment from a number of investors including Oxford Sciences Innovation. Edtopia, led by CEO Toby Staveley and Professor Francis Brown, has developed proprietorial artificial intelligence to help young children to learn outside school. Iain said:

“We are delighted to support investment and the commercialisation of world-class ideas from the University of Oxford. We have known Toby for a number of years. As providers of Education law we also have particular interest in ideas which further help develop intellectual capital in the Oxford market.

Combined with our experience advising the founders / management teams of various technology and tech enabled businesses, we are delighted to have supported Edtopia on its initial funding round.”

The team also successfully acted for the management team of Cellmark Forensic Services, a national provider of specialist forensic and DNA testing services, on a key corporate transaction. Established in 1987, Cellmark is one of the largest forensic science providers to police forces in England and Wales and a leading provider of DNA relationship testing and toxicology services to the legal community and general public. Cellmark has built a reputation for service excellence in the delivery of quality accredited laboratory testing services.
