Damages for family of Brymbo Steelworks Pitman diagnosed with asbestosis

Mr J had been a pitman at Brymbo Steelworks between 1957 and 1990 where he had worked clearing up asbestos dust and debris as well as working during Christmas shut downs. Mr J was extensively exposed to asbestos and developed asbestosis, sadly passing away not long after he was properly diagnosed.

Mr J had a dependent wife, who had arthritis and other medical problems. She was dependent on him for help with dressing, housework and also relied upon the fruit and vegetables that Mr J produced in his allotment.  Mr and Mrs J did not buy any fruit and vegetables while he was alive, as he grew so much that they were self-sufficient.

Despite her disabilities, Mrs J provided her husband with significant care and assistance, with the support of her daughters, which was recovered during the claim.

Mrs J received a significant interim payment of £50,000 prior to settlement of her case when Judgment was entered at a first hearing. The case subsequently settled for £175,000.
